Teacher Shot Dead, Two Injured Following School Attack
Stakeholders at Atedeoi Primary School in Moroto District are mourning the death of one of their teachers and her family injured after a group of assailants raided the school last night.
According to Okello Julius, one of the witnesses and a teacher at the school revealed that the gruesome attack happened at around 10:00 PM when a group of close to ten men overpowered the security guard who possessed a bow and arrow.
The gang which is suspected to be consisting of warriors first attacked the block where primary seven pupils were sleeping before they headed to the teachers’ residential block.
After shooting Chebet Joy dead, they also shot her child and husband Chepskor Peter in the testicles. The victims are currently fighting for their lives at Moroto Regional Referral hospital.
Okello further stated this attack was the second after the one that happened during the lockdown period where the warriors reportedly turned one of the school classes into their hiding place before being smoked out by security.
Another witness and colleague, Ayuru Rose recalled that the deceased would have been saved if the district authorities came on time because she allegedly bled for an hour before she was pronounced dead.
The District Education Officer Oputa Paul confirmed that the school had been closed down to enable its teachers to recover from the trauma they went through. He revealed that they were to be relocated to a safer place in Moroto Town.
Longole Michael, the Mount Moroto region police spokesperson said that some of the suspects had been apprehended as investigations by police and sister security forces go on.
