Pastor Mackenzie To Spend 30 More Days In Jail
Controversial Pastor Paul Mackenzie is scheduled to remain in custody for 30 more days.
The embattled man and 17 other co-accused persons today got the slap at Shanzu law courts where the court Senior Principal Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda made the ruling.
“The police are hereby allowed to hold the respondents in detention for a period not exceeding 30 days from May 3, 2023,” the court Magistrate said.
Mackenzie and his counterparts facing charges murder, aiding suicide, abduction, radicalization, genocide, child cruelty, fraud, counselling and aiding persons to kill themselves and money laundering are however allowed to converse with their families and advocates while in custody.
“During the time of detention, the respondents shall be granted reasonable access to their advocates and family or any other person whose assistance will be necessary. The access will include the right to communicate privately with the advocates,” said Shikanda.
The DPP had asked the court to issue an order that would have Mackenzie detained for 90 days as investigations against him continue.
The 18 will now be held at Malindi, Mtwapa, Bamburi and Marereni police stations.
