Taxi Carrying Mourners Loses Control Killing Two Pedestrians
There was panic among mourners when the taxi they hired to go for a burial ceremony got involved in a nasty accident, destroying property and killing two pedestrians.
The accident happened at Buwooya along Jinja highway when a taxi registration number UAS 909T coming from Kalambi was ferrying mourners to Kiyindi. Eyewitnesses revealed that the driver lost control, causing the taxi to hit the pavement and overturn numerous times.
Among the victims of the tragic accident are two siblings including Annet Mutesi and her sister who had reportedly visited for the Easter weekend. Annet died as she was being rushed to Buikwe hospital while her sister died on the spot. Upon landing, the taxi crashed into one residential home leaving it in tatters.
The residents blame the accident on the road being narrow and drivers who over speed, ignoring the humps.
“Drivers, who are not familiar with the road, always ignore the humps and end up losing control of their vehicles. This is not the first time an accident like this is happening in this area,” a witness said.
It was not long after the crash that the residents reported another accident on the same road involving a government car that instantly killed a village doctor. The driver, who was over speeding, survived being lynched by angry residents.
The injured victims from the accident were taken to Kawolo Hospital for medical attention.
