Police Cracks Down Notorious Gang That Has Been Terrorizing Schools

Uganda Police through the Flying Squad have confirmed the arrest of an organized criminal gang that had specialized in terrorizing schools.

 

 

Uganda Police spokesperson SCP Enanga Fred through a presser revealed that 26 suspects had been arrested including a Kenyan National identified as Yusuf Babu the suspected overall commander of a criminal gang that operates in smaller groups of 3-7 members using motorcycles and motor vehicles.

 

 

Other criminals apprehended include Mawejje Reagan, Emma Ssetenda and Paul Mayengo Musinguzi alias Mulefu. These admitted to taking part in the robbery and attack on UMEA Primary School in Kyebando on 9th February, 2023 where they killed Solomon Mujumbi, the gateman and injured John Asingya before stealing Ugs111 million. They also attacked Kyadondo Islamic Secondary School and Bodoko Primary School in Kayunga.

 

 

The group is also said to be behind the attack on St. Joseph’s Junior Seminary, Nswanjere where they stole laptops, mobile phones and hard cash. Among the exhibits recovered by the police that pins the group to the attacks include 3 motor vehicles, HP printer, black face masks, 3 laptops bags and material used to break into homes.

 

 

“We have now clocked 14 days without any new attacks on schools. The recoveries and arrests demonstrate our resolve to disrupt and dismantle rackets behind attacks on schools,” Enanga revealed, also encouraging school authorities to always review and upgrade their security systems.

 

It should be remembered that between 9th February and 27th March, police registered at least 13 schools that had been attacked by unknown assailants in areas of Luweero, Mukono, Wakiso and Mpigi districts killing five people including one security guard and a teacher plus stealing money and property worth millions of shillings. A total of 15 people were left injured during these numerous attacks.
