Man Resurfaces Three Years After His ‘Burial’

Locals in Budaka District were left shocked after a man they had presumed to be dead and buried resurfaced after three years.

The 54-year-old Mbulamaye Wilberforce, a resident of Bugolya Village is said to have shifted from his village in January 2015 for unknown reasons following his release from prison where he had been serving time for assaulting his neighbor.

The father of five was reported to have relocated to Gomba District without any of his family members’ knowledge and there, he worked on farms as a casual labourer. His brother, Mubale Balinawa made a shocking revelation to a local newspaper about how his spirit would occasionally possess his children telling them that their lost father had died, also demanding the family to pick his remains from Galiraya, Kasalizi in Gomba District for a decent burial.

Mubale stated that the family succumbed to the pressure and in 2020, they mobilized funds that helped them travel in search for Mbulamaye’s remains. They did this under guidance of his children that directed them on where they were to find him.

When they arrived at their destination, the family involved the police and local leaders who were clueless about the matter. The residents are said to have performed rituals to call upon the spirits to direct them to the exact location where he had been buried.

Luckily, they landed on a grave near a farm and recovered a dead body wrapped in a blanket and safely carried it home for burial on 3rd June, 2020. But they were surprised when the long lost Mbulamaye resurfaced into their home alive, three years after they had buried him.

“This implies that we buried a different person, not our brother.” Mubale spoke to the local tabloid on Wednesday.

While the locals threw a festival to celebrate his life, Mbulamaye revealed how he bumped into Mwanika John, one of his in-laws in Gomba District a day before and introduced himself.

“He shed tears because he was among the people who had buried me three years ago. It feels amazing to be back at home once again,” he said.

Magola Stephen, the village chairman revealed that he was among the people that facilitated the repatriation of the said body and believes they buried a different person years later.
