Landlady Kicked Out Of Her Own House By Tenant
Residents in Ntinda Kampala District were left shocked after a tenant went against her landlord and kicked her out of her own house.
This unfortunate event happened in the Minister’s village where the widow, Nantongo Zaitun Katende was thrown out on the streets together with her children from her matrimonial home that her late husband Abdul Wahab Katende left for her. The property was to help her raise money and take care of all his children from seven different women.
According to Nantongo, her co-wife Sarah Nakakooza was responsible for her eviction because she went behind her back and connived with children and the tenant to take over the premises.
“I was admitted and on my hospital bed, one of her children requested to write an agreement to this tenant on my behalf. She instead went behind my back and signed the documents in her mother’s name.” Nantongo narrated amidst tears.
Nantongo narrates that the tenant took months without paying rent, and on the fateful day she tried to contact the tenants and find out why they were not clearing their dues, they denied ever knowing or dealing with her. She was also shocked to discover that the tenant had taken over the property and put police to guard the property.
“My husband died and left me with this property. I wonder how someone who did not even reside in the house can come out of the blue and take over with a court order. I have never been summoned.” She cried out to the authorities for help.
Sunday Ndugwe Ibrahim, a brother to the late Katende expressed his disappointment on how Nakakooza abused her place as the first wife to throw out her husband’s other widow who had appointed and given responsibility over their husband’s estate.
The Resident City Commissioner for Kampala, Amina Lukanga visited the home and condemned the unfair actions undertaken towards Nantongo. She further questioned the court to desist from issuing court orders to evacuate people from their homes without summoning them.
“I urge people in these big offices to stop making decisions without consultation from people on ground. This is a family issue which would have been handled carefully.” She said.
