Four Brothers Assault Sister To Death
Police in Rukiga District have arrested four family members in connection to the death of their sister which is believed to have been a result of long term land disputes.
According to Elly Maate, Kigezi region police spokesperson, the deceased identified as 41 year old Kiconco Christine together with the four siblings had for a long time battled over a piece of land divided amongst them by their father, Byaruhanga Selestino.
“The boys immediately sold off their shares and started claiming the part that was given to the girls. Since then, they have been threatening the deceased,’ Maate confirmed.
According to the police report, on the fateful day of 24th March, the deceased, as per the norm, came back home drunk at around 8:00 PM. She started insulting the brothers for having sold off their share of the land until the father ordered her to move to the quarters. It was then that the brothers reportedly assaulted her to death.
“While Byaruhanga was still sleeping in the morning of 25th March, his son Tumwekwase and daughter in-law Charity Bahimbisomwe told him that his daughter was dead in the compound,” Maate further revealed.
Upon confirmation, Byaruhanga alerted the police.
The four suspects identified as Bikorwomuhangi Christopher, Tumwekwase Innocent, Justus Mayumba and Atuhirwe Samuel were arrested on Sunday evening after a police dog brought to the scene led the officers to their homes.
They are to be charged with murder by assault and are being kept at Rukiga Police Station.
