Home » Where Is Freedom Of The Press?

Freedom of the press was put under test today during the ongoing protest.

The police and protestoras and goons have put the life of journalists at risk as they try to inform the public of live occurrences.

So far some reported cases of journalists arrest and others forced to delete various pictures and videos taken leave a question of the freedom of the media in a democratic country governed by the constitution.

Citizen TV Journalists and other international journalists covering the demos were attacked by a gang having knives early this morning.

In another case, African Uncesored journalists were arrested by police while covering the demonstrations.

“Our Africa Uncensored journalists, Calvin Rock and Clint Obere have been arrested by police while covering protests in Mathare. We aren’t sure where they are being taken at the moment. This is uncalled for, an affront to our freedom to do our jobs. They need to be released now,” Allan Namu manager of African Uncesored media said.

NTV journalists covering the protests in Nairobi CBD were also commanded to delete photographs taken as the officers also destroyed their press card.

Goons also attacked a vehicle belonging to Nation Media Group.
