Billy Miya Speaks On His Journalism Career

Behind the microphone, the voice of a humorous, mult-talented, creative and courageous awarding winning radio journalist is heard piercing through the ears of a listener and tempting them not to change the frequency.
Mwanangueeeee, is the melodious sing-song tone that gently comes out of an evening radio show, Maskani 47 in the company of his witty bard, Mwalimu Mbaruk.
Born more than two decades ago in Kisumu County, as the first born; his desire was to become a journalist. To speak people’s minds and break their worries to the public.
In an exclusive interview on Friday morning on Tv 47; if parents call him a legit name, then he won’t disobey being called Billy Miya.
“I used to be beaten so much when using my parents’ radio because of my love for music” he discloses his journalism journey.

In High School, Our Lady of Mercy Ringa High, the creative champ with big brains inside a small head, did his best but the focus was to secure a chance at Mombasa Polytechnic for journalism.
“I applied for Mombasa Polytechnic but unluckily when my letter came, someone tampered with it forcing my dad and I to go to Mombasa and confirm but though it was late, I had no option apart from pursuing Certificate in journalism” he narrates.
During attachment at Pwani FM, he did his best in news presenting and morning breakfast show, Tafrija la Pwani and amassed a huge following resulting to a nickname, Handsome Boy.
For media has much untold, told and ones that need a retell, who doesn’t open the door when luck knocks?
“Niliambiwa na mchungaji wangu fulani eti nina harufu nzuri ya kuvutia wadada” Kamanda wa Hizi Shughuli metaphorically discloses.
However, the good are always awarded. After attachment and working for Pwani FM, he joined Baraka FM for breakfast show and later Milele FM that opened for him another great door at Radio Maisha.
“My first salary in Nairobi was Ksh 80,000 and later while at Radio Maisha, perhaps I may be joking when I say Ksh 250,000 but who knows? ” He opens up about his career earning journey in Nairobi.

For eight years, he has worked with Mwalimu Mbaruk forming an impressive duo bringing on board both tear-jerking and smile rolling content in Kenya’s digital media.
Together with Mwalimu Mbaruk, he says their Umbea even though has been and still good, in some situation, the duo have rattled with some prominent people up to the court.
However he say; “tuna siri nyingi kuliko taulo la gesti” to imply, through crazy trends, the two have heard much in media.
Currently, him and Mbaruk host an impressive evening show starting from 3pm to 7pm at Radio 47 called Maskani 47 as his mantra remain, learn before you remove the L and earn.
