Kenya Revenue Authority has dismissed social media trends overs worn items (mitumba) levy prices in a statement released on 21st, March 2023.

 

KRA has said it has not revised mitumba levies and citizens should regard the information circulating on social media fake.

 

KRA has NOT revised levy on worn items of clothing (mitumba) as reported on various social media platforms.

 

The rates for worn items of clothings is 35% of the customs value (price of consignment, freight and insurance fee) or USSD 0.20 per kilogram whichever is higher” reads part of the KRA statement.

In the morning, social media users claimed KRA had raised levies on the worn items raising questions of concern in the minds of commoners.

 

The trend claimed KRA had adjusted tax tariffs on mitumba where the levy went to Sh 109.58 from Sh. 24.35 per kilogram for the first grade of the items.

On 30th, June 2022, East Community Gazette published mitumba rates which took effect on 1st July, 2022 that KRA is still adhering to.

 

The publication which was uploaded on the Customs of Systems, was also made accessible by all registered clearing agents and still intact till EAC revises the levies.
