Policeman Kills Himself After Shooting His Partner’s Suspected Lover

A Uganda Police officer in Amagor North B, Tororo District shot and killed himself instantly after realizing he harmed a civilian.
According to police reports in the area, the scuffle stemmed from this policeman whose identity has been concealed, suspected his wife of infidelity. While they were out drinking at her bar, there was a disagreement between the couple.
Eye witnesses state that the policeman first ran riot at the bar, pouring the entire local brew on the ground and throwing away the pots. The policeman claimed to have spent a huge amount of money on his lover and could not afford to see her go with another man. He also claimed ownership of the money that she used to open up the bar.
After the chaos, he ran and picked his gun and shot at the people who were at the bar with an aim of killing the man who he suspected was involved with his lover.
The target is said to have escaped and the policeman shot instead aimed at Sam Natoro, another resident who was at the bar at the time of the scuffle. He luckily is currently in hospital receiving treatment.
“But when he realized he had harmed someone, he walked out and after a short distance; he shot and killed himself instantly. We condemn such acts because these are people we are supposed to protect,” Moses Mugwe, police spokesperson Bukedi.
Residents in the area continue to raise their concern about the increasing number of policemen who are misusing their firearms and killing civilians.
