Man, 47 and woman 44 have faced the wrath of the clan after being found engaging in sex.

Sam Odaka and Joyce Aaca residents of Oogoria in Kumi District in Uganda were on Saturday at 2 a.m found by surveillance enforcers of Inomu Ikomion clan breaking the law of incest.

The two who are cousins, the clan spokesperson say they started navigating love last year and the clan has been on the watch to prove by themselves if it was true they were dating and having sex.

On Saturday, the clan enforcers who were on the look out found the two cousins at Aaca’s house spiritedly dancing to the happy tune.

In a silent cat and mouse game between the surveillance and the two cousins which had taken two weeks, it finally reached at the end on a Weekend where the two were arrested and punishment meted on them.

Among the Inomu Ikomion clan, children born out of incest are a curse and provocation to communal ancestors.

As members of Inomu Ikomion clan, we didn’t want to have such an outcome thus we had to intervene” John Charles Omongole the chairperson of the clan said.

Following the incidence, Joyce and Sam were fined to provide a goat for cleaning ritual and a grass kiln set up that accommodates the two for cleansing.

When undergoing the process of cleansing, fire was set ablaze on the grass kiln where Sam and Joyce were.

According to Inomu clan, when the kiln is set on fire, the victims are supposed to run to different directions as clan members flog them.

In case the victims happen to run to the same direction, the process is repeated because the immoral spirit and curses could have not left them.

In addition, the ash that comes thereafter, is poured to the river because it is impure.

The goat on the other hand, is slaughtered and meat roasted to cleanse the clan enforcers from seeing the nakedness of the victims.

Oogoria Village elder Mr James Apunyo upon the cleansing ritual, said incest is unacceptable among the Teso Community and the victims could have been fined more.

I even propose that bigger fines of a bull not a goat should be paid by those involved in incest as a deterrence” says Mr Apunyo.
