53- Year- Old Man Cured Of HIV/AIDs, Researchers Report

It’s known world wide that HIV/AIDs has no cure. However, researchers have reported of a 53-year-old man to have been completely healed from AIDs.
The first announcement of the report was done in 2019 in a research conference in Germany but the researchers didn’t publicize it to give room for more examination.
The researchers preferred to hide the identity of the Germany man, referring to him Dusseldorf man.
“It’s really cure and not just, you know long term remission but this is obviously a positive symbol of hope and an insight that, there’s more to do” says Dr. Bjorn Erik Ole Jensen when presenting details of the case for publication to Nature Medicine.
The Dusseldorf patient has now become the fifth person to have been cured of HIV/AIDs by the use of a stem cell plant.
The first person was cured from HIV is Timothy Ray Brown. Researchers published his case as the Berlin patient in 2009. That was followed by the London patient published in 2019. Most recently, The City of Hope and New York patients were published in 2022.
Stem cell plant is used for patients suffering from cancer and mainly used when the immunity of the patient is weak.
However, researchers claim that to persons suffering from HIV/AIDs, stem cell plant may not really apply to all because of the health precautions that may arise.
Globally, persons living with HIV/AIDs are estimated to be 38.4 million according to UN recent statistics. The rise has been consistent starting early 2000 to date.
In addition, Dr. Jensen say the reports about patients getting cured of AIDs gives them more motive to do further research and come up with long lasting solutions.
” I think we can get a lot of insights from this patient and these similar cases of HIV cure. These insights give us some hints where we could go to make the strategy safer” says Dr. Jensen.
