One Dead, Five Injured In Accident Involving Inspector General Of Police’s Convoy

Police in Bugiri, Uganda have reported a fatal accident that happened along the Tororo – Iganga highway at around 11am involving the Inspector General of Police’s convoy, Martin Okoth Ochola.

 

 

According to the statement issued by the Traffic police spokesperson, ASP Faridah Nampiima, the lead car, a Toyota Land cruiser registration number, UP 8517 knocked 32 year old Mukose Yunusu a resident of Mukuba zone, Bugiri Municipality.

 

 

“Police preliminary findings indicate that at about 11:00am at Buwuni village along Iganga -Tororo highway, several vehicles slowed down as they approached the convoy of the IGP that was heading to Kampala from Tororo.

 

 

It’s during that process that the rider of the motorcycle ridden by Mukose Yunusu tried to overtake a trailer and other vehicles which put him in the opposite lane where he collided head on into the oncoming lead motor vehicle of the IGP’s convoy.’ Nampiima said.

 

 

The boda boda rider who was on Bajaj Boxer registration number UEF 098H died on spot leaving a yet to be identified passenger nursing serious injuries.

 

 

In the process of trying to stop the accident, the driver injured another 5 people who were rushed to Bugiri Hospital for treatment and later evacuated in a police chopper for further treatment in Kampala. The deceased was taken for postmortem to Bugiri Mortuary hospital.

 

 

Nampiima also revealed that the IGP has reached out to the family of the deceased and conveyed his condolences.
