Woman Over The Moon After Giving Birth To Quadruplets In Kilifi.

A woman from Mariakani -Kilifi  has given birth to four  babies, one more than the three that ultrasounds had detected .

Ultrasounds done in Mariakani  indicated that  Mariam Nyiro, 22 years was pregnant with  three children – but on Monday morning  , she gave birth to two boys and two girls.

Mariam  was admitted to the Mariakani sub-county hospital  after experiencing labour pains .She was however transferred to the Kilifi referral hospital.

Speaking on Billy Oclock  , Mariam  said her pregnancy was “tough at the beginning”  and she had prayed for a healthy birth, with many  sleepless nights worrying about what was to come.

All children were delivered normally , and mother and newborns are doing well, according to the hospital management.

As per the hospital authorities, Mariam  gave birth to two baby girls at around  7 am, another boy at 7.05 am and the last  boy at 7.09 am. After the birth, the newborns were kept in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) as they were underweight.

Her husband also said he was over the moon, and felt like “one of God’s chosen children. It’s a miracle which I appreciate”.

Multiple births involving more than three babies are rare and the delivery in such cases is usually very complicated.

Kilifi department of health commended the nursing staff at the Mariakani sub-county hospital for a sterling job after they delivered quadruplets on Monday.

“Looking at the complexity of the process they underwent to deliver these children, we are really proud of their dedication. Also, the fact that the nurses had knocked off but had to go back to be on duty just to assist this one pregnant woman also needs to be commended. Contrary to the popularised narration, our nurses aren’t all heartless”.
