Three Police Officers Arrested Trying To Con University Students

Three police officers from Langata police station have been arrested for allegedly asking bribes of over Ksh. 200, 000 from two university students on Tuesday night.

 

The three arrested police constables are Victor Khisa, John Odhiambo and Timothy Otieno

 

According to Reports from Langata police station under OB NO 42/03/02/2023, Otieno, Odhiambo and Khisa arrested the two students Alvin Kyalo from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Robert Mutugi Daystar University near T-Mall in Langata and accused them of possessing a Bhang

 

‘’at 20:20hrs that it was reported by one Alvin Kyalo a second year student at JKUAT and Robert Maina Mutugi a 1st year student at daystar university, that today at around 13:00hrs they  went to magharib building near t- mall  to have lunch. While in the entrance they were accosted by three men in civilian who introduced themselves as police officers. they arrested the two and informed them that they had been arrested in possession of bhang’’ Read police reports

 

The three rogue police officers then placed the two student motor vehicle and held them for four hours. They were later forced to call their parents to demand the money to secure their freedom.

 

 

’one of them was placed in motor vehicle REG. KCT 826Q Toyota Vitz white in colour. The other one was placed in a waiting car reg. number KBP 370G TOYOTA PREMIO silver in colour which had three occupants one dressed in full jungle uniforms and the other two in civilians clothes. The two were held in the said vehicles for more than four hours. They were forced to call their parents and send cash kshs one hundred thousand each in order to secure their release or be taken to custody.  One Robert Maina was driven to an Mpesa agent near the dcc Langata offices where he was forced to withdraw kshs ten thousands shillings which his father had sent to him. He added another kshs ten thousands shillings which he had and he was released.’’

 

One of the student, Alvin Kyalo called his mother who works at city centre. The mother came up to T- mall where he met his son placed inside a vehicle REG KCT 826Q. She was asked to raise Ksh.100,000 to secure her son.

 

 

Police Report added; the mother was also forced to enter the car in order for them to negotiate but she refused. She told them to wait for her as she withdraw the cash at T-mall where she met police officers from Nyayo police post who were on patrol and reported the incident

 

 

Upon reporting to the police officers on patrol, they rushed to where the two motor vehicle were parked and managed to arrest two suspects who were in the motor vehicle REG. KCT 826Q   and rescued one Alvin Kyalo. The four other occupants who were in the other vehicle managed to escape upon seeing police. One of the students complained of having been assaulted by the suspects. The suspects were escorted to Lang’ata police station where they were identified.

 

Also recovered were KDF smoke jacket, a reflector jacket and a radio set gudget make simoco.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the officers soliciting bribes were attached to the K9 Unit in Langata.

 

The officers were placed in safe custody at Langata Police Station pending arraignment.
