Court Backs Man Walking Naked On Streets
A Spanish high court has ruled in favour of a man who was found walking in public naked in Valencia, street of Aldaia.
Alejandro Colomar, a computer scientist was arrested by Spanish police in Aldaia street for walking naked in street and arraigned to court in Valencia.
As if that was all, during a court hearing, Colomar was filmed going to court wearing only a pair of boot as the remaining body parts naked.
While in court, the 29- year- man was ordered to put on clothes which he claimed, the court infringed his freedom of ideology.
In Spain, the law of public nudity was legalized in 1988 and has been in existence for over three decades.
The law allows individuals to walk about naked in public though at regulated places and situation. In Barcelona and Valladolid, the law was recently ammended allowing people to only walk naked around the beach.
Alejandro while speaking to Reuters disclosed that he started walking naked in 2020 and many have been supporting his decision.
However, Alejandro says, eventhough he loves walking naked, one day when walking in public, he was threatened with a knife.
Following court proceedings, a High Court in Valencia has ruled in favour of Alejandro by writing to a lower court to drop all fines meted on him.
Alejandro Colomar had been accused for obscene exhibitionism and fined which he claim, the fine was useless.
The judge and court tribunal in court hearing said, in Valencia, there exist no nudity exhibition and thus, he was wrongly fined.
According to court charges, Colomar limited himself in choosing to walk naked in two different places in Valencia and his movement didn’t alter any citizen security in public order.
The ruling at Valencia court however, brings in a sense of public nudity law review and ensure, citizen’s rights and freedoms are to be protected and adhered to.
