22-year-old Charles Kiplangat Rotich allegedly threw his 60-year-old father, Samuel Tanui, into  a well after he refused to allow him to sell a piece of family land in Emitiot Village in Bomet County.

The victim, spent two days in the pit unnoticed but on the third day, he made a loud noise after hearing some voices of people near the pit, attracting them to his rescue.

Neighbours then came together, rescued the man and rushed him to Longisa County Referral hospital with visible bruises on his back.

According to Emitiot sub-location Assistant Chief Leny Ngeno, the suspect, Charles Kiplangat Rotich, was arrested after returning home at night thinking his father was dead.

Police officers from Longisa arrested  him immediately after he stepping into the compound and he is currently held at Longisa police station.

“We are happy that it didn’t rain during the period the old man was inside the pit. The story could have been different, it’s not easy for a man of his age to spend two nights in a cold place considering he also starved for that period,” added the chief.
