Lulu Hassan, a sensational Swahili TV anchor, has shared her journalism journey, and how she ended up earning the same salary as her husband, Rashid Abdalla.

 

In an exclusive interview with Bahari FM, the anchor, drama and scriptwriter revealed that she wished to become a lawyer before journalism knocked at her door.

 

Lulu revealed that when working as a receptionist after High School, an unidentified young man discovered her sweet voice and motivated her to try her luck in media.

Nilitaka sana kuwa wakili mpaka ukiangalia gredi zangu za High School, History I got an A. Nili-concentrate sana kwa subjects za kunipeleka pale but after kumaliza High School nikisubiri kwenda College, nilipata hustle ya receptionist.

 

“Wakati wa kuchukua phone calls za hapo kwa office, kuna a guy (Anthony ) akaniambia ushawahifikiria kusoma news? Nikamuuliza kwa nini? Akasema sauti yako ni nzuri. Ni mtu sikuwa ninamjua hadi sasa but I know his name.” The celebrated Swahili TV anchor narrated.

 

Lulu added that when there was an opportunity for Radio Salaam, Anthony sent her the advert, which she applied for and got the opportunity. At Radio Salaam, she revealed that she used to earn Ksh. 5,000 P.M. until she left with Rashid for new opportunities in Nairobi.

The Award-winning media personality stated that her life with Rashid in the media industry had been characterized by favor. As a couple, they left Mombasa-based radio in the same season and got new jobs earning the same salary up to date.

 

“Tulianza na 60, 000. Rashid alianza kupewa 60 mimi nikapewa 60 from 5,000 ya Radio Salaam ni miaka ya nyuma. Funny enough na ni kile kitu watu hawajui, ile mshahara napokea, ni the same salary to date.

 

“Pia, tulikuja wakati mmoja Nairobi. Mimi nikiitwa KTN na yeye Nation Media Group the same time, same date. Tukipewa barua, tulipewa the same salary, yeye akiwa radio mimi nikiwa TV.” The mother of three shared, adding it’s always God’s favour and smart work that has brought them success.
