Woman Arrested for Viewing Husband’s WhatsApp Messages
Dumsile Dludlu, an Eswatini woman from South Africa has been arrested and taken to court in Mbabane for allegedly viewing her husband’s WhatsApp messages without his consent.
According to reports from the Times of Eswatini, South Africa’s local daily, Dludlu not only snooped on her husband’s WhatsApp but also insulted him, breaching the Computer Crime and Cybercrime Act of 2022, which criminalises such acts.
It’s reported that when Dludlu snooped on Samukeliso Matse’s WhatsApp account, she allegedly bumped on some messages that weren’t pleasing.

“Dludlu not only accessed her husband, Samukeliso Matse’s WhatsApp account but also allegedly insulted him based on the information she found therein,” the daily explained according to the court documents.
Appearing before the Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi, the woman pleaded not guilty to the unauthorized access charge but admitted to insulting her husband.
However, “she claimed the insults were different from those recorded in the police statement.” Read the daily report in part.

The woman was remanded out of custody until March 10 for trial. In Eswatini, any person who violates or contravenes the Computer Crime and Cybercrime Act of 2022 by obtaining data faces a jail term of up to five years or a fine not exceeding E 500, 000 equivalent to Ksh 3.4M
If Dludlu is found guilty, she could be jailed for a period not exceeding five years and fined for breaching the computer law which prohibits one from accessing one’s information without his/her consent.
