President Wiliam Ruto has announced compensation changes which a Kenyan would be paid after an attack from an Elephant.
Speaking to Laikipia residents on Friday, President Ruto announced that any victim of an Elephant attack or any wild animal would be compensated more highly than the previous years.
According to President Ruto, before the changes, a person who died after an attack from the Elephant used to be compensated by the government with at least Ksh 200,000.

However, in his reign as the president, his government reviewed the compensation laws and policies and increased the amount of money one was supposed to be paid after an attack by an elephant.
“Tumebadilisha sheria sasa. Zamani mtu akiuwawa na ndovu, alikuwa analipwa shilingi Elefu mia mbili..Tumesema kama serikali sasa, wananchi akiuwawa na ndovu, tunamlipa shilingi milioni tano ama mnyama yeyote.” He said.
President Ruto went ahead and added that some victims of the Elephant attack would be paid differently according to the damages and injuries they would have incurred as seasons change.

According to him, the amount of compensation would be equal to the attack and the type of wild animal that would have caused the attack.
“Na pale mbele apo katikati mwananchi akiumizwa na ndovu tumeweka graduation. Wengine watalipwa milioni tatu wengine mbili na kama amekuumiza zaidi tunafikisha milioni nne bora hujasafiri kwenda safari ya mbali ile iko mbele. Bora bado uko area tunakushughulikia.” He added.
Kenyans on social media following the president’s compensation changes, felt elated as they posed questions to know the amount one would be given in case of a snake or rat attack.
