The Ghana's Ministry of Youth and Sports announced reward schemes for athletes who win medals

All African Games are currently underway in the West African country, Ghana in the capital of Accra as different athletes from all corners of the continent are looking to secure direct tickets for the 2024 Paris Olympic games. In the Women’s 20km walking race, Emily Wamusyi Ngii won the first gold medal for Kenya as she clocked 1:37:34 beating Ethiopian Masire Sintayehu.

The 800m defending champion Mary Moraa bagged a gold medal in 400m race after she clocked 50:57 in the ongoing African games which was her second medal in the event after winning bronze medal in the 4X400 women’s mixed relay race on Tuesday 19th, March.

World 3000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech also won a gold medal in the African games after clocking 9:15:61 setting a new course record in the event. In the 800m race,  Aaron Cheminingwa won the gold medal as he clocked 1:45.72 ahead of fellow Kenyan Kipngetich Ng’eno who came second after clocking 1:45:73.

The Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports announced reward schemes for athletes who win medals at the ongoing African games in the capital of the country. According to the ministry, the prize money for gold medalists will be $3000 which is same as Ksh. 396,000 and $2000 for winning a silver medal same as Ksh. 264,000 while bronze medalists will walk away with a cash prize of $1000 same as Ksh. 132,000.

This means Mary Moraa, Beatrice Chepkoech, Emily Wamusyi Ngii and Aaron Cheminingwa will walk away with a whooping Ksh. 396,000 each. Kenya is currently placed in the 4th position in Track and Field medal standing after Day 3.
