Hakuna Kutumia Condoms: Why Tokyo Olympics Athletes Were Given Condoms But Denied Using Them
During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that was delayed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic that struck the world towards the end of 2019 leading to the event being postponed, I the event organizers issued a total of 160,000 condoms to all participating athletes.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the athletes were ordered to adhere to the set social distance protocols to prevent the spread of Corona virus where they were also banned from engaging in intimacy during the event despite being provided with condoms.

Normally, any sporting gathering serves as a platform for players and athletes to mingle and form connections and at some point, lead into close relationships that leads to intimacy among them. But due to the COVID 19 athletes were advised to refrain from any sexual act.

For years, the athletics organizers have been providing thousands of condoms to ensure the safety of athletes engaging in intimate activities during the event. The organizers for the Tokyo Olympic Games distributed 160,000 condoms despite athletes being asked to refrain from engaging in sexual intercourse.
The condoms provided by the event organizers during the Tokyo Olympics to the athletes, were advised to view the condoms as a remembrance of the event as well as raising awareness about the spread of HIV/AIDS virus, rather than using during the Olympic games.
Athletes who would have been found violating the COVID-19 guidelines, faced severe consequences including fines, disqualification, and even the loss of their Olympic medals for frequent offenders.
