Jowie Irungu Files Notice Of Appeal Against His Death Sentence
Joseph Irungu, known by his nickname Jowie, has taken the first step towards challenging the death sentence he received for the murder of Monica Kimani in 2018.
According to documents obtained by Citizen Digital, Jowie intends to appeal both his conviction and the severe punishment handed down by Lady Justice Grace Nzioka.
In the legal paperwork submitted by his lawyer, Andrew Muge, it is stated that the appeal will focus on disputing the guilty verdict and the imposition of the death penalty. Jowie, represented by his legal counsel, has expressed his desire to actively participate in the appeal process. He was found guilty of the murder of Monica Kimani, which occurred at her residence in Lamuria Gardens.

The lawyer stated, “Joseph Kuria Irungu, also known as Jowie, appeals to the Court of Appeal against the decisions of Lady Justice Grace Nzioka, made in open court at Milimani, Nairobi, on February 9, 2024, and in her written judgment dated February 9, 2024, where he was convicted of Murder and sentenced to death on March 13, 2024.”
The decision to impose the death penalty was justified by Justice Nzioka as appropriate given the seriousness of the crime and the tragic loss of Monica’s life at the age of 29.
