“Nataka Ksh. 200 Billion”:Pastor Ng’ang’a Tells Gov’t On His Church Land

"Nataka Ksh. 200 Billion":Pastor Ng'ang'a Tells Gov't On His Church Land

Pastor James Ng’ang’a, known for stirring up controversy with his outspoken nature, recently made headlines by expressing his willingness to sell the land on which his Neno Evangelism Centre church stands to the government for a staggering Ksh.200 billion.

This announcement came following his appearance before the House’s Departmental Committee on Lands, where he defended his ownership of the disputed property while accusing the government of attempting to unjustly seize it.

Situated at the bustling intersection of Haile Selassie Avenue and Uhuru Highway, the land in question has become embroiled in controversy as part of an ongoing investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) into allegations regarding its rightful ownership, with claims suggesting it may belong to the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC).

“Wanapiga kanisa lakini sio hii watapiga. Hii ilienda kwa sababu niko na rights zote. Ksh.42 million that is a lot of money… tukalipa, “ he said in reference of the sum of money he claims to have paid for the church land.

During his testimony before the Lands Committee, Pastor Ng’ang’a provided insight into the acquisition of the land dating back to 2004.He recounted how he initially purchased the property from the government for Ksh.42 million when it was first put up for sale.

However, he faced a challenging situation when the land was subsequently reintroduced to the market, compelling him to reapply and repurchase it to secure his ownership rights. Ng’ang’a’s bold stance outside the Parliament building underscored his determination to assert his ownership of the disputed land, despite the ongoing scrutiny and legal challenges surrounding its status.

His willingness to entertain the prospect of selling the property to the government for an exorbitant sum reflects both his confidence in his claim to the land and his strategic approach to navigating the complex legal landscape surrounding its ownership.

“I started preaching in Mombasa before later coming to Nairobi. In 2004, I saw a ‘land for sale’ sign from CBK, when I went to inquire about it they told me the price was Ksh.32 million, but they told me to pay 10% and the rest within 90 days,” he said.

As the legal battle over the land continues to unfold, Ng’ang’a remains steadfast in his determination to defend his ownership rights and protect the interests of his church.

The outcome of this contentious saga is eagerly awaited by observers keen to see how the dispute will ultimately be resolved and what implications it may have for similar cases in the future.
