Why Harambee Stars Coach Criticized Benson Omala’s Kshs. 2.8M Salary Offered By Algerian Side
Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has criticized KPL 20-time champions Gor Mahia’s striker Benson Omala failed transfer to Algerian side JS Saoura. Omala was set to complete a sixth-month loan transfer to the North African side following an agreement between Gor Mahia and JS Saoura but the deal did not materialize.

Benson Omala had already agreed to $20,000 (Ksh2.8 million) monthly salary as well as a signing-on fee of $100,000 (Ksh14.3 million) with a potential to signing him permanently on a two-and-a-half-year contract. The Algerian intended to pay Gor Mahia $50,000 (Ksh7.1 million) to acquire the services of Kenyan sharpshooter.
Speaking with Radio 47, the Harambee Stars head coach, described the transfer offer as a ‘joke’ compared to the Gor Mahia’s current levels of playing. “The other day, I heard that Omalla was set to move to Algeria and earn $20,000 per month. That amount is not commensurate with what a top striker should be earning.”

Omala is the current league’s top scorer with 11 goals, and he is in the race to win his first Kenya Premier league golden boot after missing it last season by one goal. It is yet to be known if the Algerian giants will come back in the summer for the signing of the promising goal poacher.
