KFCB( Kenya Film Classification Board) has ordered Chris Embarambamba and his friend William Getumbe to remove their unethical and blasphemous songs from all digital media platforms.

In a statement written by KFCB, the board said Embarambamba’s song Niko Uchi and Getumbe’s Yesu Ninyandue lack morals and are signs of disrespect to society.

The song titled ‘Niko Uchi’, which is purported gospel, invites ridicule to the Christian religion, also contains nudity (and) vulgarity. It has further been noted that some of the artiste’s dancing styles are violent and others present imitable behaviour, which if copied by children/minors, can be dangerous and disastrous,” KFCB said.

Further, KFCB noted that they have received uncountable complaints from the public about the two songs of the controversial gospel musicians and that they are not going to tolerate such themes in Kenya’s entertainment industry.

The unpalatable songs, which also contravene Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya are circulating on social media and other media platforms, eliciting sharp reactions and outcry from the public.” The board added.

It went ahead and pointed out that hence the artists contravened its rules and regulations, the songs have to be removed from all digital media platforms.

Besides Embarambamba and Getumbe, the board broke its silence on Bishop Johanna’s prayer and deliverance style by alleging such religious activities should be taken with caution and children protected from consuming such content.

It is more appalling that adults who should be gatekeepers in protecting children from exposure to harmful content are taking the lead in circulating these inappropriate videos.

The Board does not wish to curtail creativity and freedom of expression. However, freedom of expression as enshrined under Article 33 of our Constitution is not absolute. It has certain limitations and must be interpreted within the broader context of other provisions of the Constitution, including Article 11 on culture and Article 24 on the limitation of rights and fundamental freedoms,” the board asserted.
