Besiktas Having Tinder App And 5 Other Players Whose Contracts Were Terminated For Strange Reasons

Employers across the globe are always employed through the signing of contracts with the employer and that does not exclude football players they get signed for a contract running for a specific period. The employers have all the rights to terminate the employees’ contract at any given time in situation where there is a need for the same.

People get their contracts terminated for obvious but at times others get their contracts terminated for weird reasons. As Mideyah Digital will look at some of the strange contract terminations in football history, after Turkish giants Besiktas decided to part ways with their 21-year-old winger, Emirhan Delibaş for having an in a dating site.

A statement seen by Mideyah Digital media Sports desk confirmed that Delibaş’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent. The Statement read, “We have parted ways with professional football player Emirhan Delibaş by mutual agreement. We wish Emirhan Delibaş success in his future career and present it to the public.” 

This revelation came after the player’s account on the popular dating app Tinder went viral leading Besiktas to terminate his contract despite Delibas denying of having such a profile labelling it as a fake account.

With Emirhan Delibas not being the first player, his contract to have been terminated for strange reason, here are other players who went through the same.

 1. Patrice Evra

The former Manchester United and France Right Back Patrice Evra is well known for his endless controversies. In July 2014, the Frenchman left Manchester United after spending 8 years with the club where he signed for Serie A giants Juventus before moving back to his native country’s side Marseille.

On 2nd of November 2017, Evra gave one Marseille fan a ‘Karate’ kick after the fan allegedly insulted him during a warmup session ahead of their Europa League game that led the club to termination of his contracts by the club with an immediate effect.

2. Nicholas Anelka

The former Chelsea man saw his contract terminated by West Bromwich Albion in 2014 after his goal celebration after using the Quenelle an anti-semantic celebration that was a prejudice towards, or discrimination against Jews and was termed as form of racism. After the investigations Anelka was slapped with a £80,000 fine by the Football Association.

He later used social media to announce he was terminating his contract with West Brom, where West Brom responded that Anelka had given the club no official notification of his intention to leave, and later the club gave him 14 days’ notice of termination from the club for gross misconduct.

3. Marcelo

It is worth to note he is not the Real Madrid and Brazilian legendary defender Marcelo. The former Lyon defender Marcelo was reportedly sacked by the French club for inappropriate behavior.

Marcelo Lyon in 2021, and rumours emerged claiming his contract was terminated because he was farting and laughing about it in the dressing room which angered many of his teammates. However the defender later denied the allegations on his social media platforms.

4. Sergi Guardiola

It is also worth to note that the player has no relationship with Manchester City and Spanish manager Pep Guardiola despite being namesakes. But Sergi Guardiola is more popular for the way in which his contract was terminated by Barcelona B in 2015 after tweets of him praising the 14-time Champions League champions Real Madrid and insulting Barcelona were found.

5. Adil Rami

On 13 August 2019, Rami’s contract was terminated by Marseille for ‘gross misconduct’. He had been under investigation by the club for missing a training session at the end of the 2018–19 season after claiming that he had an injury.
But on the same day as the missed training session, Rami took part in the recording of an episode of the French TV game show dubbed Fort Boyard where contestants competed in a set of challenges to win prize money, including participation in a variation of mud wrestling and performing demanding physical stunts.
