Jose Mourinho Names 8 Players He Enjoyed Coaching

Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho commonly referred as ‘The Special One’ has revealed 8 players he enjoyed coaching in his managerial career so far. Mourinho who was sacked by the Serie A side AS Roma in January 2024 has been without the club since then.

Mourinho who is regarded as one of the Greatest football managers of all time, has managed several biggest clubs in Europe including Spanish giants Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, FC Porto and Tottenham Hotspur before moving to AS Roma. Mourinho who was privileged to manage a host of stars in Europe in those big clubs he coached but despite that he has a list of 8 players who he enjoyed coaching.

During a one-on-one interview with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on VIBE With FIVE Podcast, the legendary manager listed the best players he has enjoyed coaching throughout his managerial career. The least expected player in his 8-man list, The Special one included Scotland and Manchester United defensive midfielder Scott McTominay in his list, describing him as ‘my boy.’ “When I look to Scott McTominay… Pogba was on the bench and I played him in Seville. He is my boy. When I go from club to club, I find my boys. And they will always be my boys,” Mourinho said.

Then there are the big stars. My captains. [John] Terry, [Javier] Zanetti and Jorge Costa. Then there are the stars that make the difference, even when people think you are the genius. You are not the genius. They are. They win matches for you. Cristiano [Ronaldo], [Karim] Benzema, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and Didier [Drogba]. They make you feel like a genius,” Mourinho disclosed.

In the interview, ‘The Special One’ also revealed his disappointment after he was fired by AS Roma despite declining two big job offers one as Portugal manager and other from Saudi Arabia, but he decided to turn them down to remain at AS Roma.
