Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei only survivor of a tragic accident that claimed the lives of world marathon champion Kelvin Kiptum and his coach Gervais Hakizimana along Eldoret Kaptagat Western highway has shared what happened before the accident.
In a statement recorded by the police, Kosgei told the police that the late athlete was driving the car when it lost control and veered off the road to hit a tree at around 11:17 PM on Sunday.
According to the police statement, Kosgei alerted Kiptum when the car had moved off the road but before he realised it, it had already hit a tree which resulted in the death of the two.

Kosgei after the tragic accident that claimed profiled lives, sustained several injuries which led her to visit a nearby hospital to seek medication but was later discharged.
However, the police assured that they will continue with their probe into the matter as the athlete’s burial arrangements continue.
“We were able to record a statement with Sharon Kosgey, and we have confirmed that indeed Kiptum was behind the wheel, the investigation is still ongoing, and once we are through with the investigation, we will deliver the findings,” one of the officers noted.

The death of a 24-year-old athlete has been surrounded by several stories where among the many stories, his father was recorded saying that before the death of his son, four unidentified men went to his home and enquired about his presence but refused to conceal their identity.
Besides that, one lady emerged on TikTok crying by alleging she was Kiptum’s girlfriend. That brought the internet to a standstill where Kiptum’s family distanced themselves from her allegations.
However, the head of state William Ruto in the process of befitting Kiptum a better send-off, ordered engineers to build a nice house for the late marathoner as a way of honouring and mourning with his family.
