Full List of The Best FIFA Awards 2023 Winners
The FIFA Best Awards are held yearly, and this year’s edition took place on Monday, January 15 in Apollo, London. With the three Best Men’s finalists Messi, Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe were not present in the ceremony. Here is the full list of this year’s winners.
The 2022 World Cup winner Lionel Messi scooped the Best Men’s Player of the Year award for the second year in a row. The Argentine being named the winner this time around was slightly more controversial, given many felt other nominees Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe were more deserving.
This was evident as Erling Haaland’s father Alf-Inge Haaland who was present to represent his son in the awards reacted when Lionel Messi was named as the winner.
Barcelona women’s star Aitana Bonmati was crowned the Best Women’s Player of the Year once again after another sensational year with Barcelona. She becomes the first women’s player to win The Best, Ballon d’Or, UEFA Player of the Year, and World Cup Golden Ball in the same year.
England Women’s Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman won Women’s Coach for the second successive year, while Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola took home Men’s Coach of the Year after Manchester City’s historic treble winning last year.
Manchester City’s shot-stopper, Ederson Moraes was named Men’s Goalkeeper winner despite missing in the FIFA’ Best FIFPro World 11. It was another Manchester resident who won the Best Women’s Goalkeeper award as Manchester United’s Women goalkeeper Mary Earps was named Best Goalkeeper of the Year.
