Family Uses House Keys Found On Decomposing Body To Identify Missing Man

Relatives of missing Twesigye Anthony 23, used a set of house keys found on his decomposing body to identify him.

A man who was reported missing for a number of days was identified using a set of house keys recovered on his decomposing body in Kabale district.

 

The deceased identified as 23-year-old Twesigye Anthony was a casual laborer and his body was discovered disfigured, making it almost impossible for his people to identify him.

 

The decomposing body was discovered floating on River Rwabakazi on 2nd January, 2024 by Paskaale, a cattle keeper who alerted the police.

 

According to Kigezi region Police spokesman, Elly Maate, the body was retrieved and taken to Kabale Hospital where appealed to whoever had a missing relative to go to the mortuary to see if they could identify it. A number of people came around but failed to identify it because of its decomposing state.

 

Yesterday, 7th January, 2024, Twesigye’s relatives led by Owomugisha Silva 49, traveling from Rukungiri district filed a missing persons report at Kabale police, suspecting that he had been arrested.

They were directed to the mortuary to look at the body but failed to identify him until they were shown the set of house keys recovered from the deceased’s pockets.

 

Maate explained that Owomugisha, an uncle to the deceased recognized the keys and in the company of police, they went to his house and used the keys to open all the doors.

 

The deceased who was residing alone is said to have disappeared from home on the 28th December, 2023, just after speaking to Owomugisha.

 

“The uncle tried to call him on the phone several times but he was unreachable and travelled from Rukungiri to check on him only to find the house locked and reported the matter to the Police,” Maate revealed.

 

The police handed over the body to the relatives from burial arrangements as they opened an investigation into the cause of death.
