The Tororo Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Amula Albert has ordered relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances under which two babies committed under the Neonatal Unit died at Tororo General Referral Hospital.

According the reports, the babies are said to have suffocated before their parents as a result of health workers absconding duty.

Reliable sourced from inside the hospital revealed that the babies stayed on oxygen for the whole day and the nurse who was monitoring them through the night ended her shift thinking an officer could come and take over for the day shift. The officer unfortunately did not turn up.

One of the mothers who lost her son painfully narrated how she watched him die because she had no idea on how to operate the incubator to remove him.

“I’m optimistic that my baby would have survived if I went elsewhere to have deliver. It’s our prayer that government takes over the case to make this place sate for deliveries,” she said.

District leaders in the company of Mr. Amula visited the government hospital and expressed their dismay to the fact that the health workers neglected their duty.

“We are saddened by the incident because this is the only government hospital where people expect to get the best service. This embarrassment may make patients shun coming to the facility to have safe deliveries,” he revealed.
