Scene As Azimio MPs Walk Out During Budget Reading
Azimio la Umoja legislators today Thursday, June 15,2023 walked out of the Parliament chambers as soon as the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u began reading the 2023/24 Budget.
The MPs chanted as they angrily walked out of the August House before the speaker called the house to order allowing Treasury CS to continue with the reading.
The lawmakers maintained that they cannot be part of a budget which is unfriendly to Kenyans in a press briefing held shortly after the scene.
“We cannot allow a budget that is going to hurt a number of Kenyans. We know that Rome was not built in a day, but we cannot accept this,” Likoni MP Mishi Mboko stated.
“Azimio does not believe in this budget. That is why we have walked out. It is not meant for the Kenyan people but for the Kenya Kwanza government. Until we get a budget premised on the Kenyan people, we will not participate,” Suna East MP Junet Mohamed said
However, some Azimio allied legislators remained in the building to listen to the budget currently being read out.
