Kiambu Senator Seeking To Give Kenyans More Holidays
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa is seeking to give Kenyans more holidays in his proposed Public Holiday Amendment Bill.
In the bill that according to him will emulate Philippines which has the same arrangement, he is seeking to make changes on Holidays falling on Tuesdays and Thursdays with those falling on Wednesdays remaining untouched.
If a holiday falls on Tuesday, Senator Karungo wants Monday to be a holiday too similar to those falling on Thursdays which will make Fridays holidays .
“Where in any year, a public holiday (a) falls on a Tuesday, then the preceding day(Monday), shall be a public holiday or (b) falls on a Thursday, the succeeding day (Friday) shall also be a public holiday,” his amendment bill read in part.
In his proposal, Karungo however fails to explain why holiday falling on Wednesday are not affected.
He however states that the changes will allow Kenyans to spend more time with families, preservation of culture and promote domestic tourism.
“It will also allow for quality time with loved ones, celebration of traditions, and the opportunity for travel and tourism”
