Residents of Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso District were left in shock after three family members burned to ashes after a fierce fire engulfed the house they were sleeping in.

The incident happened on Monday evening at Kinaawa Cell with the fire that claimed the lives of a 50-year-old landlady Kabenge Nankanja Halima and his two grandchildren Nambi Aisha, 13 and three year old Kibirige Yahaya Ayubu.

According to the village chairperson Lutaaya Edward, the fire started at approximately 10:00. Fast responders tried to put out the fire using water and sand but they failed since the victims had locked the metallic door to their two roomed house.

They successfully made a hole through the brick wall to try and save the victims but unfortunately Kabenge and Kibirige had burned to ashes. They managed to retrieve Nambi who they rushed to Kiruddu Hospital but died on arrival due to the severe injuries.

Police and the firefighters arrived at the scene but could not access the area due to lack of pathways. The fire was contained and prevented from spreading to other houses in the area.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident and revealed that all property in the house was burned down.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the city mortuary.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established but neighbors suspect it was caused by a burning candle as electricity was off by the time of the incident.
