AFC Leopards End 7 Years Of Gor Dominance In Mashemeji Derby

AFC Leopards have ended a 7 years jinx of not beating Gor Mahia in the emotive and high-profile Mashemeji Derby.

For the last seven years, from 2016, AFC Leopards have endured pain and online ridicule from Kogalo fans for always playing a second fiddle in the match.

Prior to the Mashemeji derby, Gor would be sure of 3 points or atleast a point while facing Ingwe, but that ended on Sunday 14th at Nyayo stadium after high flying AFC Leopards silenced the well attended Derby.

AFC won the match 2-1, a match that was also attended by president William Ruto, ODM Leader Raila Odinga, Cabinet Secretaries Eliud Owalo and his sports counterpart Ababu Namwamba, Nairobi Governor among others.

After the match, President Ruto donated one million cash money to the two captains from both sides as a token of appreciation.

“I have held discussions with Hon. Ababu Namwamba and we have all agreed that we will take Kenya’s status in sports and football back to where it was and should be. “Just as I had announced before, we want the Africa Cup of Nations to be held here in 2027,” said Ruto

Ingwe Goals were scored by Victor Omune from sport kick and Maxwell Otieno while Gor’s consolation goal was netted by Austin Odhiambo.

The loss also complicate Gor Mahia mathematics of winning the title. Gor now stand second on the log with 63 point, a point behind behind leaders tusker.
