Lionel Messi Wins The Laureus World Sportsman of the Year

PSG forward Lionel Messi yesterday won the Laureus World Award for the male athlete in France.

 

He is the only sportsperson to take home both team and individual honors in the same calendar year. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a sprinter from Jamaica, was named sportswoman of the year.

 

 

Speaking after winning the award, Messi said he was honored to receive the award.

“This is a special honor. I want to thank all my teammates, not only from the national team but also at PSG. I have achieved none of this alone, and I am grateful to be able to share everything with them.” He said.

  • Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award: Catherine Debrunner

 

  •  Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award: Eileen Gu Laureus Sport for Good Award( Robert Lewandowski)
