Four Arrested For Attempting To Sell Government Land

Four men have been sentenced by the Anti-corruption court to 18 months behind bars for attempting to sell government land to a private company.
Among these include the directors of the company Dambio John, Wamala Lawrence, Googo Nelson and the former chairperson area land committee, Mause Tom.
While being presented before the Principal Magistrate Grade I Mushebebe Moses Nabende, the culprits admitted before court their attempt to transfer the Tororo Municipal Council 4 acres piece of land to their private company registered under the name Lions Club of Tororo Host club Limited between 2015 and 2018.
According to prosecution, the council had leased the land to the registered trustees to operate a children’s park and the culprits registered this fake company to claim ownership of the land belonging to the Municipal Council.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit revealed that the fraud was stopped by the Ministry of Lands Mbale Zonal Offices after it was discovered that there was no hand of the physical planner. The Unit in collaboration with the Uganda Police CID arrested the culprits and presented them before court.
On their guilty plea, they were convicted and ordered to pay a fine of Ush1.5 million each or serve 18 months in jail.
They were also slapped with charges of attempting to obtain money by false pretence, abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud alongside Ekisa Osudo Jackson, the principal Assistant Secretary/ Secretary District Land Board.
The prosecution however, will hear the case against Osundo before Magistrate Mushebebe having denied the charges.
