Arsenal Pressures Manchester City
Arsenal kept pressure on league leaders Manchester City with a stirring 2-0 victory at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
The Gunners could not afford to drop points at this stage as they tried to catch City at the top.
Arsenal had a rough start to the game and were fortunate that VAR reversed a penalty that had been given to Newcastle.
From outside the box, Martin Odegaard launched a low shot that found the bottom corner to start the scoring.
In the next fast-paced match, both teams had opportunities, but Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Odegaard all missed golden chances to increase Arsenal’s lead before halftime.
Newcastle came calling in the second half, and Alexander Isak’s effort came off the crossbar while Granit Xhaka blocked off Willock’s effort.
Arsenal scored the second when Martinelli’s effort came off Fabion Schar, who put the ball in his own net, and Arsenal got the three points.
Mikel Arteta said his team needed to keep focus in the remaining games
“The only thing we can do is keep insisting and don’t turn our backs and lose the focus, or something else. Be determined every day. Let’s keep going and see what happens.” He said.
