President Ruto Leads Kenyans In Eulogising Heroine Mukami Kimathi
Late Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi’s wife Mukami Kimathi was on Thursday 4th pronounced dead at Nairobi Hospital by her daughter Evelyn Wangui Kimathi.
When speaking to Kenya’s media outlet on Friday 5th, Wangui disclosed having not informed the public about her mother’s death until done by the government.
Mukami, 101 – year- old was among the many freedom fighters who fought the country’s independence from the jaws the colonialists.
The mother of 10 during her lifetime, had been begging the government to help her get her husband’s body alleged to have been buried in Kamiti Maximum Prison forest after execution but to her pleas were never put into concern.
Dedan Kimathi, a Mau Mau fighter was captured by the colonialists in 1956 and executed in 1957 at Kamiti Maximum Prison’s forest.
However, following her unfruitful pleas to the government by helping her unearthing the remains of her husband from the forest to his home and accorded a befitting send off, the female warrior died before having her cries honoured by the state.
In mourning the heroine who also fought for the independence of the country, sitting president William Ruto amongst many politicians have eulogised Mukami as motherly, motivational, wise and patriotic lady who put Kenya in her heart.
” Mama Mukami Kimathi courageously withstood the brutality of colonial oppression, proudly wore the scars of the battle and bore the terrible losses of war with admirable fortitude” reads parts of Ruto’s statement.
In commemorating her astute courage and stand ovation in bringing her children as a widow after husband executed by colonial masters, Ruto has added that Mukami was inspirational and a champion for unity.
“Mukami Kimathi was also a steadfast patriot and well-known champion for national unity who inspired many Kenyans of all ages to cherish our country and stand ready to defend our values” adds part of Ruto’s statement.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on his side has eulogised the heroine as a social person during her lifetime and urged the government to grant her a special befitting send off.
“I will always salute and honour Mukami for the fortitude with which she picked up the pieces, holding her family together, seeking the truth about her husband and continuing to remind Kenyans of the virtues of patriotism, courage and unity” reads part of Raila’s statement.
Deputy president Gachagua and Interior CS Kindiki have also eulogised Mama Mukami who in their statement, have said she has reminded them of their fallibility and desire to leave an indelible mark that spearheads the urge to work for the citizens.
