DP Gachagua Elated By Bhang Prices

Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is happy with the great progress in the fight against the use of drugs substance and alcohol in the central region.

Speaking during a consultative conference which was held in Naivasha, Gachagua  noted that the price of cannabis in the Central region has increased significantly since the war against drugs was announced, which according to him, is a very important step.

“I am very happy that since we started this exercise in the central region of Kenya, a roll of cannabis that used to be sold for one hundred shillings is now sold for 400. They are making progress. That is a good development,” he said.

Gachagua pointed out that the narcotics have become too expensive to be bought by many users.

“That is the right thing. Because the police are monitoring cannabis a lot, those who sell it, because the risk is so high, they increase the money, selling 400 that they could afford 100, they stop smoking because it is not available,” he said.

Following this, the deputy president has now called for the same measures taken against cannabis to be taken against alcohol.

He regretted that many young people drink alcohol because it is cheap  and readily  available in stores.

“Let’s make it difficult to have cheap alcohol. Let these young people go and work if they want to drink Tusker, which is 200 shillings. He should go to work, be paid 400, drink two and end up without food,” he said.

He added, “This 30 shillings and 40 shillings alcohol is the problem. Even if we say we need to create alternatives for these boys, as a government, as a society we have allowed poison in the shops at a cheap price.”
