PSG Loses 1 Million Instagram Followers After Suspending Messi
Barely Two days after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) suspended Argentina international Captain Lionel Messi, the club is now feeling the pinch of the online wrath.
After accusing the club of meting harsh penalty on the world cup winner, Messi’s fans have now throng in the PSG Instagram account to unfollow the page.
Initially, the account had over 71.4 million followers but drop 71.3 Million, meaning around 1.1 million followers have unfollowed the page.
On Tuesday, PSG suspended Lionel Messi for making unauthorized tour Saudi Arabia. Messi was making a personal promotional trip to the Arab Nation without Club’s permission.
Sources close to the World cup Winner reveal that he had asked PSG for permission to be able to travel to the country, which he did on Sunday night, having twice postponed a scheduled commercial trip there previously due to team defeats.
Messi then chose to fly, a decision that has seen him handed a suspension for two games and fined two weeks’ wages after a day of meetings between the club’s hierarchies.
The 35-year-old was pictured in Saudi’s Capital city of Riyadh on Monday and advertised his presence in the country on his social media. Messi already serves as a tourism ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Messi will now miss the upcoming Ligue 1 matches against Troyes and Ajaccio, but could return for the match against Auxerre on May 21.
Messi had taken advantage of Monday when the club had asked players to rest ahead of team training on Tuesday, but after the shock lose to Lorient 3-1 over the weekend, PSG manager called on players to report for training on Monday.
During the training, Messi was a notable absentee.
PSG has also confirmed it will not renew his contract that is lapsing at the end of the season
