Paul Mackenzie Rearrested After Release
The Malindi COURT has acquitted preacher Paul Mackenzie who is linked to the wrong faith that caused the disaster in Shakahola in Kilifi County.
Mackenzie, who was brought before Chief Magistrate Ivy Wasike, has been released along with eight of his colleagues accused of being involved in the deaths of 110 people.
Since his arrest, Mackenzie has been detained for 14 days. The prosecution lawyers were Vivian Kambaga, Alice Achola and Sylivia Ole’suke.
The suspects have been represented by lawyers Mr Komora Elisha and his colleague Mr George Kariuki. In addition, the court has denied the prosecution 90 days that the party requested to complete the investigation. It has said it does not have that ability.
“This court does not have the authority to issue judgments regarding the offenses of terrorism and the provision of radical training that the defendants are facing,” said judge Wasike.
And at the same time, Mackenzie has been arrested again and taken to the Shanzu High Court along with eight colleagues.
The prosecution is planning to file fresh extremism charges under the Prevention of Extremism Act, at the Shanzu court, Mombasa County.
