Liverpool Revives Champions League Hopes

Liverpool revived their top-four hopes with an impressive 2-1 win against West Ham at the London Stadium.

West Ham continued their impressive recent run by taking the lead right away through Lucas Paqueta after 12 minutes. A few minutes later, Cody Gakpo’s 25-yard shot gave Liverpool the equalizer to level the score at the halftime break.

Jarold Bowen thought he had given West Ham the lead in the second half after a nice team move, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Joel Matip’s header gave Liverpool the advantage in the end, restoring their chances of finishing in the top four.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, however, denied getting back into the top four race. “I can’t see the race yet; I can’t. That’s because we are not in a position to race. So the only thing we can do is keep winning football games. If that puts pressure on other teams, that’s not in our hands because we don’t play them.” He said.

Liverpool moved into sixth place with 53 points after 32 games played.
