Rayo Vallecano Stun League Leaders Barcelona With A Comfortable Win
On Wednesday, Rayo Vallecano defeated league leader Barcelona 2-1 at home.
After second-placed Real Madrid were defeated 4-2 by Girona on Tuesday evening, Barcelona were presented with a good opportunity to widen the gap at the top. They, however, did not use the opportunity, as Rayo Vallecano scored twice through Alvaro Garcoa and Fran Garcia to stun the visitors.
In the second half, Barcelona pulled one back for the leaders through Robert Lewandowski, but it was too late to salvage a point from the game.
Speaking after the game,Robert Lewandowski insisted his side needed to be calm: “We didn’t have the patience to generate chances and create danger. “We need more calm; it was a small field, which makes it difficult for us to show our best game against a team that presses very high.” He said.
With seven games left, Xavi Hernandez’s team leads Real Madrid, who is in second place, by 11 points.
