I’m Rich, Sauti Sol’s Bien Says After Receiving MCSK Royalties
Kenyan music artistes despite their long time plea and cries upon Music Copyright Society of Kenya( MCSK) to increase their annual royalties, artistes continue to receive shameful potatoes as royalties.
Inauma hitmaker Bien Aime Baraza of Sauti Sol on Saturday morning shared a screenshot of his royalties received from MCSK on Friday via Mpesa.
On his Instagram page, Bien claimed the amount of money Ksh 14, 634 he received is a disgrace to his personality. According to him, he claimed he’s richer than whatever MCSK sent him.
“Let the weekend begin. I’M RICH BITCH!!!!! Where the hoes at. We balling out of control this weekend.
“Your number 1 artist has been paid royalties. I can only imagine what upcoming artists like @khaligraph_jones are getting. DM with today’s plan,” Bien Aime wrote.
On his Instagram page as he called out damsels to make merry using the royalties, music artists and comedians took their replies in laughter as they wonder whether the money is to be shared by whole Sauti Sol group or just his as a person.
Can’t this issue be addressed once and for all?
Eddie Butita; Inauma inaumaaa lakini utazoeaaa
Harry Richie, the Vaida hitmaker on the other hand felt displeased on Friday after receiving Ksh 3,328 as his royalties from MCSK.
Despite his song Vaida being the hit of the year 2022, the crazy payments made him allege to going back to his profession and leave music.
Additionally, he called upon MCSK to send the late gospel singer’s royalties Ilagosa wa Ilagosa to his father who is battling high economic challenges.
“For those who write about us artists, how we live lavish lifestyle. #Vaida is all over but this is what we get paid twice a year. As a matter of fact the last time I received such a message was in 2020, anyway hope pesa ya Marehemu ILAGOSA WA ILAGOSA mumetumia his father. I am going back to my work of profession” Harry posted on his Facebook page.
