Woman Arrested For Throwing New Born Baby In Pit Latrine
Kasangati Police are holding in their custody a mother who dumped her newborn baby girl in a pit latrine.
According to the police report, on 11th April, 2023, Namulemba Winnie’s boss Bulyaba Belinda noticed blood stains in her room and when she tried to find out what had happened, Namulemba stayed quiet.
This prompted Bulyaba to take Namulemba to Jojo Clinic for a checkup and in fear of being ousted, she revealed that she had given birth but the baby had accidently fallen into the pit latrine which she had visited to ease herself.
When they returned home, Bulyaba heard the baby’s cry from the latrine and quickly reported the matter to Kiteezi Police. The police together with rescue services rushed to the scene and successfully retrieved the baby who was alive from the pit. Namulemba was arrested and detained at Kitezi Police station where she is being charged for attempted murder.
Following the rescue, the baby girl was taken to Hands Of Love Medical Center for medical attention and later transferred to Mulago Referral Hospital.
“We would like to assure the public that we take this matter very seriously and justice will be served for the rescued baby. This incident highlights the need for parents and guardians to ensure the safety of their children at all times,” Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigirye said.
The police recorded statements from different and have opened inquiries into the case.
