Raila: You Have 7 Days To Arrest Cop Who Killed Maseno Student
Azimio leader Raila Odinga has given a seven day ultimatum for arrest and conviction of the police officer who killed William Mayenga, a third year Maseno University student during Azimio protest.
In his speech read by Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the Azimio leader among many other concerns wondered why the police never fired rubber bullets but decided to use live bullets to kill an innocent and harmful protester.
“Why did the police officer single out William Mayenga who at the time of his killing was a harmless student taking part in a peaceful demonstration? Why did the police officer use live instead of rubber bullets? Why has this officer not been arrested? When will the parents get justice for their son?” Odinga’s speech stated.
He further condoled with the family of the departed student whose life was cut shot by the police.
“Just like any other Kenyan, we are deeply saddened and stung by the death of this young patriotic Kenyan University Student who should be in class studying for his exams”
Mayenga was shot by a police officer after claims of the protesters around the institution overwhelming the police forcing them to fire live bullets on March 20 protest.
According to the students, the deceased was shot by a woman police officer who they can identify as she was conspicuous from her fellow cops.
Mayenga was laid to rest yesterday in a ceremony graced by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Kisii Governor Simba Arati.
