Police in Masaka District have arrested two people suspected of brutally burning a businesswoman by pouring on her a corrosive substance that is believed to be acid.

The victim, identified as Florence Nakayima, 40, is a businesswoman who sells fish in Kyotera Town Market. She says she was approached by two men who came to her stall pretending to buy fish and when she turned around to interact with them, they poured the acid in her face and body before fleeing the scene.

Nakayima was quickly rushed to Masaka Referral Hospital where she is being treated for the serious burns on her face and body. She believes she was a victim of a targeted attack by two of her business rivals who she says have for a long time talked about harming her.

“Two women I know; Sylvia and Mukisa have been warning me that they would hurt me for a long time. The day I was attacked, one of the women bragged that she would take over my business,” Nakayima, who is currently nursing her wounds, said.

The mother of the victim who is currently attending to her in hospital has called upon Good Samaritans for financial aid as she can barely foot the bills on her own. Nakayima has six children and she was the sole breadwinner of her family.

“I’m asking for financial help from any person willing to help my child. We are admitted at a very expensive hospital but we cannot afford to pay the bills,” she said.

Masaka Police Spokesperson Kasirye Twaha confirmed the case and noted that two people identified as 24-year-old Nagaba Jonas and Ssenfuka Junior have been arrested in connection to the case.
